HomeroomStudents were given a Title I Compact (form) last week, for parents to read, sign and return. I am still missing some forms from my homeroom class. The school is required to have these forms on file from each student. Please ask your child if he or she still has the form. Students had their vision screening today, more information to follow. PLEASE help your students to remember the importance of having earbuds/headphones in school each day!! Multiple teachers plan activities that involve students working at their own pace on the computers and students need to have earbuds to be able to work without disturbing the other students in the classroom. MathToday in Math, students took their CFA for decimal operations and most students showed marked improvement from their pre-test. We also had a mini lesson on division with fractions using modeling and then checking with the standard "keep, change , flip" technique. Students have a homework worksheet this evening in which they are supposed to solve the problems using modeling and then prove their solution using the "keep, change, flip" strategy. Students also need to remember to use their "cubes" strategy for solving word problems on their homework sheet. Students continue to learn more about photosynthesis, cellular respiration and transpiration. Students also partnered with a classmate to study for their quiz tomorrow. Students should be studying all of the vocabulary from the first unit along with plant reproduction, plant anatomy and plant defense mechanisms.
HomeroomReminders: Tomorrow is vision screening day. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them for the screening. This Friday is the due date for the Butter Braids fundraiser. Order forms and money should be turned in on Friday. Monday is the last day to make deposits for the OBX trip. MathWe had a very busy day today in science. We took a reassessment for our unit on division with fractions. We took a quick quiz to determine which students need more work on multiple operations with decimals. We started the new unit on division with fractions and we talked about some new strategies for solving word problems. Homework this evening is to find definitions for all of the new vocabulary words in the new unit. The Anchor charts for the new unit can be found below. ScienceThis Wednesday we have a quiz in science. students were given a study guide today to help them prepare for the quiz. Students started a new mini unit on Photosynthesis, cellular respirations and transpiration. Students are encouraged to study tonight AND tomorrow night for the upcoming quiz. We have taken quizzes once already on the vocabulary words. This will not be a definition matched to the word quiz. The words will be used in sentences and students will need to fill in the blanks using the words found in a word bank. The study guid sheet and flower identification sheet can be found below.
HomeroomWow! WHAT A BUSY WEEK! We are all certainly thankful for the cooler weather at recess. Although, some students need to be mindful of the possible need for a jacket and appropriate footwear. EARBUDS ARE A MUST!!!! I have had several students come to class without earbuds this week. I have a few pairs of headphones and some extra earbuds, but I do not have enough for everyone!! Please check with your student on a regular basis to see that they are leaving the house each day with they earbuds or headphones. All students should have a letter to parents with some reminder dates for the OBX trip. The letter is pictured here! MathThis week students worked to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with decimals. Students watched "Virtual Nerd" videos and took notes with important information. We will take the CFA for the decimals unit on Tuesday. Today we tried out a new game. This math game is an on-line game that allows the teacher to enter "assignments" that students complete while working through the "islands" they visit. I got great reviews from my students and am encouraging them to play the game at home IF THEY HAVE FREE TIME! Our next unit will cover interpreting and computing quotient of fractions and solving word problems involving division of fractions by fractions using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. ScienceStudents were also busy writing, acting out and recording skits about animals' assistance in flower pollination. They also explored websites and recorded important information about plant adaptations and their defenses. Students need to start preparing for their quiz on Wednesday. Start by studying all of the vocabulary from the unit along with the parts of a flower. Fun with Mrs. E!!A little something special from the teach!! Hey everyone, I had a great time on this website creating a Mrs. Eisenhofer Peanuts character. Try creating one for yourself on http://www.peanutizeme.com Have a Fabulous weekend everyone!! HomeroomTonight is the MIS curriculum night. All parents will meet in the gym at 6pm with Dr. Gammon prior to visiting classrooms. MathStudents worked to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with decimals in center rotations. We started a new Ten Marks assignment which will be due on Monday if not finished in class on Friday. We are working on an Virtual Amazon shopping assignment. And, a Safari Restaurant assignment. Students may choose which assignment they want to complete for homework this evening, keeping in mind that the Ten Marks, Amazon and Safari assignments are REQUIRED assignments. ScienceToday was our last work day in class for the current unit. Any unfinished work will need to be completed as homework. Students have a Science "to do" list with all of the items that were supposed to be completed by the end of class today.
HomeroomHoping to see everyone at the curriculum night tomorrow evening at 6pm. All students should have brought home a paper this evening explaining the changes in our school's Title I status and how this effects your child and our school as a whole. This paper is to be signed by the student and a parent and returned to the school to be kept on file. PLEASE encourage your child to return the paper tomorrow. MathStudents started math today with a quick quiz to determine their progress with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals. Based on the results of the quiz, some students completed center rotations, some students worked on practice IXL's and some students worked individually with Mrs. Eisenhofer on their specific needs for growth. Homework this evening is IXL O.5 to at least 75%. ScienceStudents are starting to enter notes, work and projects into their digital Science Port Folios. I am excited for students to become more familiar with the benefits of these resources and the product that they will have at the end of the year that they will be able to reference even in the Middle School!! Students need to be preparing for the quiz they will have next week on the unit we have been working on during the first 4 1/2 weeks of school. Watch for the study guide on this blog and on paper, soon to come!!
